Intergenerational Transmission of Parenting Styles from Family of Orientation to Family of Procreation in the Small Town

This bachelor's thesis focuses on the transmission of parenting styles in families. It is designed as a case study concerning two generations of families from a small town named Říční that is located in the Central Bohemian Region. The aim of this thesis was to describe what influence does a parenting style person was raised in have on the individual's approach towards raising his/her own children. Theoretical part is divided in three chapters that discuss topics of family, upbringing and intergenerational transmission. Each of these sections is dedicated to defining concepts that are further used in the thesis as well as summarizing existing relevant findings. At first, the practical part presents to a reader what kind of methodology was used. Then it is devoted to interpretation of gathered data and answering established research questions. The foundations for this was my qualitative research during which I carried out semi-structured interviews with current parents and grandparents. Output from thematic analysis is description of how respondents from both generations were raised, how they rated their upbringing and what parenting style they could have been raised in.
